As a digital illustrator, you probably already know how powerful Procreate can be for creating stunning artworks. However, there are some features that might be less well-known, but can make a big difference in your workflow and productivity (for example, if you want to create seamless patterns!). In this post, we'll take a look at five Procreate features that you might not know about, but should.
QuickLine
Drawing straight lines can be a challenge, but with QuickLine, it's easy. Simply draw a line and hold down the pen on the canvas. Procreate will automatically snap the line to the nearest 15-degree angle, making it perfect for technical drawing and other precise work.
Clipping Masks
If you've ever wanted to apply a texture or pattern to a specific area of your artwork without affecting the rest, clipping masks are your answer. You can create a clipping mask by selecting the layer you want to apply the mask to, then tapping on the layer you want to clip it to. This feature is perfect for adding texture to specific areas of your artwork.
Quick Shape
Creating shapes with precision can be time-consuming, but QuickShape makes it fast and easy. Simply draw a shape and hold down the pen on the canvas. Procreate will automatically recognize the shape and convert it to a perfect circle, square, triangle, or other shape.
Alpha Lock
Alpha Lock is another masking feature that allows you to paint within a specific area of a layer. To use it, select the layer you want to work on, then tap the layer thumbnail to bring up the options menu. From there, select "Alpha Lock" to lock the layer's transparency. Now, you can paint within the layer without affecting anything outside of it.
Reference Layer
When working on a complex artwork, it's important to have reference material at hand. The Reference Layer feature allows you to import a reference image and have it always visible on a separate layer, without affecting your artwork. To use it, tap on the wrench icon in the top toolbar, select "Canvas," then "Reference." From there, you can import an image and adjust its opacity to your liking.
These are just a few of the many features that Procreate offers. By mastering them, you'll be able to create even more amazing artwork and increase your productivity as a digital illustrator.
