Vintage Fantasy Gift Box (Creative World Tour: Stay Home)

A special person deserves a special gift. Gift boxes are a great way to make someone smile. Well, the gift part anyway. But a pretty gift box alone can melt one's heart.

Now that we are on a break from our Creative World Tour, let's make the most out of our time. We stay at home and create some paper crafts and be productive while having fun.

Our tutorials are kid-friendly so you can always do these together with your family and friends, especially with your kids. They will surely love it.

How to make a Vintage Fantasy Gift Box

Here, I will teach you how to make a vintage fantasy gift box for your dear ones. There are many events where you give gifts and presents so if you’re running out of any ideas on how to make a good one, here is a suggestion.

You can watch this tutorial anytime and with anyone since it’s really quick and easy. If you plan to do this with kids, note that there are scissors involved. Just follow the simple steps below and you’ll be done in no time.

Also, you can click the links below if you want to watch that part on the video.

  • 00:52 Print Out the Template and Vintage Fantasy Paper
  • 01:11 Cut Out the Template
  • 03:42 Score and Fold the Templates
  • 04:45 Attach the Templates Together
  • 07:48 Your Vintage Fantasy Gift Box is Ready!

Material

Basically, you only need the template and vintage fantasy papers to create your gift boxes.

Print Out the Template and Vintage Fantasy Paper

First, you need to print out the template on one side and the Vintage Fantasy Paper on the other side.

As a crafter, you will find out that as you create more and more paper crafts, it is more economical to just print your own papers than to buy them on craft stores.

All you need are your digital supplies and a good printer*. Pay for your digital scrapbooking supplies once and you can use them as many times as you need them. They are also great for your paper crafts.

Cut Out the Template

Next, grab your scissor and cut the template out. Cut as precisely as you can so it can fit together later.

Score and Fold the Templates

Then use your bone folder to score the lines inside the template. You can also use a ruler as your guide if you want a straighter and cleaner result.

You can use your fingers to fold the papers, or the ruler by itself if you don’t have a bone folder. Just make it clean so everything will fit nicely later when we put these parts together.

Attach the Templates Together

Next, add pieces of adhesive tape to the smallest folded parts or the bottom parts of the sides of the box. It’s best if you use a smaller size adhesive tape to reduce the fuss, but you can still use bigger sized ones. It will just take a little bit longer and tape will get stuck on your fingers more often. You can also use glue here but it's more convenient to use the double-sided tape.

Remove the coating film of the tape and attach them to the bottom of the box - the square template.

Attach each sides to the square. If you make a mistake, you can remove the part carefully by peeling it off and trying again. There’s a pattern, though. You will notice you have two different templates for the sides. Note that you have to put similar parts facing each other.

Also, add adhesive tape to the semi-circular flaps. Then put them all together upright. Make sure to have the flaps be inside the box, not outside so that it will look prettier when it’s finished. Again, you can also use glue here.

Your Vintage Fantasy Gift Box is Ready!

To finish it all up, you can tie it all together with twine or string and insert a flower in there to make it look prettier if you want. If this is a present, you can add the tag, too. You can choose how to customize it anyway you want. You can even add stickers or draw on them! The best way is to partner it with the Vintage Fantasy Envelope.

Now, there are many ways you can use this box. Teacher appreciation gifts, mother or father’s day, birthday presents or birthday giveaways, etc. I could go on. And like I said, you can customize this anyway you want. But, I think the gift inside is what matters most of all, so you got to put some heart into that one, too.

If your goal is to make a special person smile, then I hope your specially made gift box will succeed in its duty.

Digital Scrapbooking

What’s the most difficult part about scrapbooking?

Getting started is the most difficult part about scrapbooking. I can hear you.

As with everything you want to get started on - making your first scrapbook, can be a headache. You may love it this moment but then you mess up one part by adding an unnecessary element, and then you immediately want to discard it.

How to Start Scrapbooking

  • First, look for Inspiration
Sure, those layouts maybe other people's memories but you can pull little things you like. For example, you may like how this person lays out her pictures but don’t like her way of adding embellishments. That’s okay, you can scrap your own way or get more inspiration from others. It depends if you want to make your own or if you want to make a hodgepodge of styles.

A recommended place for looking for inspiration and layouts or designs is Pinterest. You can make a board for your project or multiple projects at the same time. You can also look for things that you feel like matches the essence or theme of your scrapbook. For example, sunflowers or piles of autumn/fall leaves. You can browse through our content for inspiration if you want.

Plan your Theme

  • For those who want to make their own layout, I advise planning. What theme or essence are you going for? The layout can be inspired by which season you made these memories; like summer or winter, a newborn, an engagement or just "Thanksgiving".

Maybe you want a Beach or a  Mexican theme, you can also check out some inspirations on the web.

If you plan, you can choose the elements you want to add to your scrapbook. What is the essence of the story? Take some notes and then start gathering what you need. This might help you to get started.

Choose your Materials and Methods

  • Once you have your theme in mind, the method of putting things together comes naturally. Like drawing, gluing, or taping. Most people use all of these together, but that’s up to you, of course. Make sure you can afford all these stuff, too.

  • The good news is - you can use digital scrapbooking kits to mix and match different embellishments or elements. You can also look for inspiration through your digital stash. Sometimes different embellishments can spark multiple different ideas, write those down. You may use these in the future.
You'll find that digital scrapbooking is less expensive in the long run since you can print out the elements and papers as often as you like. You might want to use the Epson EcoTank Printer, I wrote a review here (see how I use that printer).

Digital scrapbooking papers and elements can be used for your other creative projects, too. For example, journaling, card making, and paper crafts - but you can also print out stickers for other creative projects. See how many possibilities you have with just one Digital Scrapbooking Kit?

Preserving Memories

Once you get your inspiration and everything is planned out, start collecting the things you need. Most importantly, the memories. Your “memories” may be photos (this is what it usually is), snippets of something you treasure, tickets, or little knick-knacks you can fit in your scrapbook. These are the most important parts of your scrapbook.

You can leave room for more memories at the end of your scrapbook so you can fill them in when the day comes. That way you can start just a few days after you go make the memories. If you follow this method, it can feel more rewarding because you are filling it up as you go. The downfall of this is that you don’t exactly know how many pages you need. Or materials. It’s up to you of course.

Are you inspired to start your scrapbook now?

Not yet? Maybe you're not in the mood. In this case, another way to start is to use your most recent pictures. You can just scrap the "who", "what", "when" and "where" on your page. Besides, that's the essence of scrapbooking - to record memories.

If you still feel overwhelmed why not stretch the making of this scrapbooking (if you're doing this after you already made your memories) over days. This is most likely when you are busy. Like I said, plan things out - you will thank me for it.

If you're still not inspired, then just start. You may pick up the mood or inspiration as you go along.

If you feel compelled to start, good luck! I hope you finish your scrapbook and make good memories (if you haven’t already).

Let's make things even easier...

I know, tips are nice but doing is the actual essential part! So why not start with my Course "Easy Digital Scrapbooking"?

During this class I show you how the Project Life App from Becky Higgins works - it helps you preserve your memories, one day at a time in 5 minutes for later editing if you want to and if not - just print out those pages and have your own photo book done in no time!

Joining the Class also means that you get a few editable files to create Project Life Cards as well as a Coupon about $10 for the store to grab a digital scrapbooking kit of your choice.

Yes, you read correctly - the entire course is not even $10 but you get a Coupon for the store about $10 - why? I want you to start scrapbooking once again and keep life together through this tough times.

Here at Digidesignresort, we are on a mission to help you preserve your memories for future generations. This Lemonade and Ice Cream Digital Scrapbooking Layout is perfect for your endless projects.

When you scrap, you create beautiful scrapbooks that you can show off to your family and friends. You can upload them on your social media, of course, as well or have them printed and added to a photo book.

Tutorial: Lemonade and Ice Cream Digital Scrapbooking Layout

In this tutorial, we are using a great vector program called Affinity Designer. You can download it from serif.com..

Exercise your creativity as you display your memories in this cute scrapbook.

Material

Here is the software, paper and digital scrapbooking kit as well as the printer I use to print out my digital scrapbooking layouts.

In the Sunset Scrapper Club you also find the ready-made Quick Page from the Tutorial (directly inside the Digital Scrapbooking Kit with further Quick Pages, Elements and Papers!) Join us here

How to Create the Lemonade and Ice Cream Digital Scrapbooking Layout

Creating a digital scrapbooking layout is very easy with Affinity designer.

Here is an overview of what you'll learn in the video. Just click on the links and you automatically go to that minute in the video.

  • 2:08 Create a New Document
  • 2:32 Add the Background Papers
  • 3:45 Add the Boarder
  • 5:24 Add the other Digital Elements
  • 9:06 Create the Picture Frame
  • 9;42 Make the Frame Transparent
  • 10:48 Save the Layout

Create a New Document

First, let's create a new document.

Click File >  New, select 12 in x 12 in and Transparent Background, then click OK.

The standard size for digital scrapbooking is 12 in x 12 in but, if you print it yourself you can also choose Letter Size or check out the review of my printer I can print 12x12 myself in a fantastic quality!

Add the Background Papers

Click View > Studio > Assets. Now you can open your digital scrapbooking kit that you have imported into your Assets. Just drag and drop your first layer into the document. You can be creative in adding your background paper.  But if you have never done this before or just want to have an idea how to to it, you can follow along with me.

We have a separate tutorial on how to add digital scrapbooking kits to Affinity Designer that you may want to check.

Go ahead, drag and drop the second paper. Position it nicely.

Add the Boarder

Select the right element to use as your boarder. Drag and drop it into the paper, and then resize it. Let's give the boarder a shadow. For that, click on the "fx" at the bottom right, click Outer Shadow, and play with the settings of your shadow until it looks more realistic.

Add the other Digital Elements

One by one, add the other digital elements. You can use other elements more than once. Arrange, rotate, and resize them nicely - that's the beauty of digital scrapbooking.

Create the Picture Frame

Drag a frame from the kit, and drop it into the paper. Resize it to the size you want for your picture.

Make the Frame Transparent

We will have a transparent frame here that's why we set up our document with transparent background when we created it.

To do this, switch to Pixel mode in the top left corner, grab the Selection tool, then create a frame, just follow the size of the frame element. Switch back to the designer mode (again, top left corner).

Next, select the layer, click Rasterize so you can get rid of that area.

Do it again with the other layer of paper. Just click that layer and rasterize it just like you did with the first one.

There, you have a transparent background.

Save the Layout

Now, you have a beautiful layout. The next thing you do is to save it as an Affinity Designer file so you can access it anytime you want to and even edit the layers..

Click File > Save, name it, and save. Don't forget to export it as a PNG file also so you can easily place your picture behind it and start printing.

Seven Myths about Digital Scrapbooking

Many traditional scrapbookers resist the temptation to experiment with digital scrapbooking because of some prevalent myths about going digital. This article will debunk these notions and explain the advantages of dipping your toes in the digital scrapbooking world.

 Digital Myth #1.

To create digital scrapbooks, I need to be a computer guru and learn complicated software.

Fact.

Today's digital scrapbooking software is easier than ever to use- even for the amateur. Affinity Designer offers a free 30-day trial, which is generally enough time to give it a try. And while it might take a little time to learn, you'll find that the endless array of beautiful, innovative scrapbook designs and photo collage frames is well worth the minimal effort.

One of the best programs for digital scrapbooking I know and which is really not expensive and does not have a monthly subscription is Affinity Designer for your Mac or Affinity Designer for iPad.

Convince yourself and have a look at this video where I show you step by step how to create a digital scrapbooking layout with Affinity Designer - a graphic program which can do much more than "just" digital scrapbooking but is perfect for that!

I got myself two Online Courses for Affinity Designer - one for Affinity Designer for the iPad and one for the Mac. I really like Phil Ebiner's Courses because they go in depth and after you have watched them you feel much more confident with the program.

You can find the Online Courses here:
Affinity Designer: The Complete Guide to Affinity Designer*
The complete Affinity Designer for iPad Course*

Digital Myth #2.

My digital scrapbooks will look amateurish because I lack experience with them.

Fact.

Even the beginner digital scrapper can produce professional-looking photo collages with the wide variety of easy-to-use scrapbook designs and collage frames available today. Electronically edited photos are of higher quality, computer text is consistently straight, and computer font is always legible. Generally, digital scrapbook pages look more professional than traditional creations and boost the pride scrappers feel in their projects.

Digital Myth #3.

Digital scrapbooking is more expensive than traditional scrapbooking.

Fact.

By switching to digital scrapbook designs, you can actually save yourself money ... and time. If you already own a computer, all you need to buy is the scrapbook layout software (e.g. Affinity Designer) and digital scrapbook kits (one is fine to start, find ours here!), which are fairly inexpensive. The equivalent in paper, scissors, glue, embellishments and albums is far more expensive, and once you use them, they're gone. Digital scrapbook designs and collage frames, on the other hand, can be used indefinitely. Think of the money you'll save on gas driving to and from the craft stores, and the money you could save on gifts by giving personalized photo collages to friends and family.
A great addition to this equipment is a printer so you can print out your projects. One great printer for digital scrapbookers is the Canon Pixma TS 8320*.

Digital Myth #4.

Switching to digital scrapbook designs will limit my creativity.

Fact.

You can take your creativity to exciting new levels with the variety of digital scrapbook designs and collage frames available now. Choose any design you like and turn it into just about anything you want. You can mix and match or create your own unique styles. Adjust the colors, sizes, patterns, arrangements ... add audio and even video... your options are limitless.

Here are some examples of creative Digital Scrapbooking Layouts:

Both look completely different but both are created with the same digital scrapbooking kit, "I just love You"

Digital Myth #5.

I don't have time to learn how to make digital scrapbooks.

Fact.

Today's graphic software Affinity Designer is so user-friendly and intuitive that it makes learning it a breeze. Once you get the hang of it, digital scrapbooking is a great timesaver. Correcting mistakes, editing, moving items around and revising are much easier and quicker to do digitally than they are by hand. You can size and resize your backgrounds and photo collage frames with a few simple mouse clicks and create beautiful keepsakes in no time.

And, if you decide to use your digital scrapbooking kit for paper scrapbooking we also got you covered!

Digital Myth #6.

I need to own a digital camera to create digital scrapbooks.

Fact.

Even if you only have a mobile phone, you can still create digital scrapbooks with the images you have taken with your phone. And you can also finally put to use those electronic photos your friends and family members have e-mailed to you (or you find on social media). Of course, with today's digital camera prices going down all the time, you may find you'd like to buy a digital camera anyway!

Digital Myth #7.

If I move to digital scrapbooks, I'll have to give up the traditional art of scrapbooking and the social and bonding aspects that come with joining my friends and family in making scrapbooks.

Fact.

On the contrary, digital scrapbooking broadens social circles. Many digital scrappers get together to share their digital resources and knowledge about editing programs. They go to scrapbook conventions and meet others in online digital scrapbooking chat rooms. Plus, you can take advantage of the digital scrapbook's ability to help you keep in touch with faraway friends and relatives via e-mail, Websites and easily printed copies of scrapbook pages that you can mail to them. You can also save them on an external hard drive or memory card.

Of course, you can still make traditional albums and consider integrating your digital scrapbook designs into them. And as you learn new techniques and tricks digitally, you're apt to spark your creativity with traditional scrapbooking.

You don't need to become an expert digital scrapbooker overnight. Start out small by making a simple digital photo album, then work your way up to a full-fledged scrapbook. Happy scrapping!

It's also great fun to connect with other scrappers here our Pool Bar and show your crafts!

Create a Tape in Photoshop for Digital Scrapbooking

Ever wonder how to put a Scotch Tape into your Digital Scrapbook Layout? Here is a tutorial that will answer every question you have about that sticky tape effect you’ve seen in other scrapbooker’s layout.

We bet you’re already excited to learn about the scotch tape secret so let’s begin!

Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new file. Add a paper background into your layout. In this tutorial we’re using some contents from Digital Scrapbooking Kit Endless Love (PU/S4H) by Mistica Designs that can be found in Digidesignresort Shop as well.

Create a Tape in Photoshop for Digital Scrapbooking

You can increase each image by clicking on it so you can easily see all settings used.

Create a Tape

Open and add the photo where we will put the scotch tape.

Create a Tape

You can apply Layer Styles if you want. Here is what we used to improve the looks of the photo. Just copy the values on the settings in the Drop Shadow and Stroke styles.

Create a Tape

Create a Tape

Now, that we have the paper in place, we will add the tape.

Add a new Layer and then use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to draw a rectangle that will serve as a short strip of tape.

Create a Tape

Use the Paint Bucket tool to add colour to the tape.

Create a Tape

Deselect by hitting command+D (Mac) or Ctrl+D (Windows).

Next, we have to simulate the ends of the tape with the help of Brushes.

Get the Eraser Tool and look from the Brushes available something can be used to cut the ends. Adjust the size according to how big or small your tape is.

Create a Tape

Adjust the Opacity of the layer to make it look like semi-transparent. Something between 20%-35% is okay.

Create a Tape

To make it more realistic, use the Dodge Tool to create some white lights just like what happens when you stick a tape into a glossy surface.

Create a Tape

You can duplicate the layer and use the same tape for the other side like what we did below.

Photo Tips for Autumn

Autumn is a time of wonder and colors. It is when leaves magically transform to red and oranges and fall from trees, paving the way for cold winters. Autumn has always delighted children and adults so it is not surprising that some people call it their favorite season.
Autumn is a fun time to make memories and take timeless pictures.

Fantastic Photo Tips for Autumn

Any time of the year is a great opportunity to take exceptional photos but during autumn the landscape around us transforms and becomes even more beautiful. Ordinary green turns to vibrant oranges and reds. In order to increase your chances of creating a wonderful array of autumn photos, we have some tips for you.
Use a tripod
The tripod is your friend and if you should take exceptional photos, you should master it. Tripods really help when you are shooting with dusk encroaching. Minimize noise by turning off your flash and setting your ISO to 100. Different shutter speeds can do wonders so do not be afraid to experiment.
Use a macro lens
Do you have a macro lens? Good! If you want to take expert looking pictures of leaves, the macro lens is very handy. Do not worry if you do not have a macro lens because most SLRs today come with macro mode settings. Again the tripod is very handy when taking macro shots because it will allow you to focus without worrying about blurring.
Take leafy portraits
scrapbook in fall
Make use of what is abundant during autumn, leaves! Leaf heaps can be a fun addition to any portrait, be it portraits of children or adults.
Capture a time-lapse
Why not take a picture of the same tree from the same spot every day of the month? If possible, take the shot around the same time daily for a whole month and you will have yourself a time-lapse picture which perfectly captures the transformation of the tree.

If you want to make an exceptional scrapbook with an autumn theme, your best choice is the Autumn Path Mega collaboration kit by Digidesignresort. The kit comes with 253 design elements which can truly make your scrapbook stand out from others with the same theme.

Summer Photo Tips for Midsummer Night Digital Scrapbooking

Time goes by so fast and things can change quickly and these are just some of the reasons why fleeting moments must be captured and preserved. Keeping your photo in an album is a good idea but if you want to be extra creative and artistic, it is best that you make a scrapbook of life’s special occasions and unforgettable moments.

Summer Photo Tips

Summer is one of the best times to create lasting memories, be it on a trip with the whole family or on a road trip with friends. You want to have your camera ready so that you can capture the joyous moments of summer.
The tripod and self-timer are your friends
Although having your camera ready on your hand or dangling from your neck is a good thing, the self-timer and tripods can be your best friends. Tripods can help in really long exposures and help prevent shakes so make sure that you have a sturdy one that can support the full weight of your camera and lens. A wireless remote can also help you fire the camera from your spot so you can also be included in the summer pictures.Bright_Eyes_Aug_13_Prog_Step_5
Add more light
If you are shooting during nighttime and need a bit more light, use your headlamp or flashlight. You do not need fancy camera equipment to take better photos during nighttime. Just remember to aim the light away from the camera so that you will not get a hot spot.
Every-Day2Nature
For spectacular views of nature such as national parks and mountains, use a wide angle lens. Incorporate the natural scenery into the photograph, especially if the landscape is famous. When it is bright and sunny, remember to underexpose. If the subject is dark, you may also want to use flash.
Wildlife
Wild animals always make good photography subjects but the problem with them is that they move quite fast and you cannot get near them. The solution to this dilemma is a fast telephoto zoom lens. Capturing them in some sort of action makes for an interesting photo. If you want a deep DOF or depth of field, choose a small aperture.

We Are United Family Digital Scrapbooking

We Are United Family Digital Scrapbooking

This screams ‘family’. Yep the title should be a clue huh? Duh! Well this beautiful digital scrapbooking kit collection by Digidesignresort is so amazing it can be used for everything from family to friends to vintage scrapbooking layouts. It has 80 scrapbooking elements, 40 digital scrapbooking papers of size 12 x 12 each, and 1 digital scrapbooking alpha of size 12 x 12 each. It is a graphic layout that speaks from the page and can be used for scrapbooking or calendars or even t-shirts.

The digital scrapbooking design is pretty amazing. You could have a lot of fun working with this one to take some pretty amazing pictures and create a pretty amazing scrapbook.

Now I will share with you some ideas of how I used mine so you could probably glean a thing or two:

  1. The first step is in knowing what you want. You have to have a finished image in your mind before you start trying to create anything.
  2. You have to decide if you want to use the scrapbook for personal or commercial purposes.
  3. Then the work starts. I decided that I wanted to commercialize mine so I compiled several pictures of musical artists doing their thing, you know singing their hearts out. It was amazing! Several different artists in different parts of the world, with different heritages, dressing style, beliefs, all united in music ? that was the theme.
  4. Then I started pasting pictures of the artists on each scrapbooking page. Strategic pictures that showed the differences in personalities, culture, and all that stuff I mentioned earlier but which had the underlying theme: we are united. Let me tell you, this one sold like crazy!
  5. Then I had another one done of sports athletes. I pasted pictures of my boyfriend’s favourite team, Manchester United ? he went a little crazy when he saw that one. I got pictures of them together before a match, gathering around an injured colleague, rejoicing at a goal, mourning a loss, the works. I am not a fan of football but even I have to admit the result was pretty amazing! Of course when I handed it over to my Bf as a gift for his birthday, he was moved coz the message was clear: I didn’t like football, but he did and so… we are united.
  6. Of course you could also take pictures of you and friends or family or even just paste the good old national flag and the message is clear… we are united

Here are some layouts for your inspiration for the Kit We Are United Family Digital Scrapbooking:

Enchanted Summer Digital Scrapbooking Kit

Enchanted Summer Digital Scrapbooking Kit

This enchanted summer nights design is created by Digidesignresort and it has 77 scrapbooking elements; 31 digital scrapbooking papers of sizes 12 x 12; 2 digital scrapbooking Word Art of sizes 12 x 12; 1 digital scrapbooking Alpha of size 12 x 12.

Despite the name, these graphics are not restricted to summer. You could use them for spring, summer, birthdays, family, and indeed any other type of scrapbooking layouts that may take your fancy.

Now this graphic can be used for scrapbooking. You can also use it for designing a t-shirt or designing a bag and also for creating place cards. Heck, you can probably design an entire sleuth of bags and place cards and sell them for some pretty dollars.

Given the several colours of this particular layout, there are a few tips you should bear in mind if you decide to use it:

  1. The layout is seriously multi-coloured so if you are taking pictures for this particular layout, you should probably make certain that your subjects are not clothed in multi-coloured clothes because the clash will be just horrible.
  2. Again, you should watch the background of wherever you are posing your subjects. By this I mean you should definitely not use pictures taken in a carnival with this layout because they it will be jarringly clashing.
  3. Try pasting individual pictures and not group pictures because they will stand out better rather than where they are several people looking out from amidst a cluster of flowers.
  4. Take pictures of natural scenes like a park or a forest or even a cluster of birds and paste them strategically in the pages of your scrapbook with the Enchanted Summer Nights layout.Digital Scrapbooking Kit

This kit is extremely colourful and because of that, you can be as creative as you want to be without going over the top.

Of course there are also several licences that can be purchased relative to this graphic and this can be used to design your own website if you want, or whatever else the licence permits.

Digital Scrapbooking Kit Route 66

With Commercial License

Uploading 1000 photos on Facebook might not exactly be a very satisfying way of sharing or even preserving your travel adventures. I think that there exists several fun and easy ways that you can share your travel story and preserve your memories. This is one of the reasons why so many people nowadays have an appreciation for digital scrapbooking. Using digital scrapbooks is a simple and creative way to capture special moments and memories in a conventional scrapbook layout that is created on a computer.

The Bundle for digital scrappers

The favorite part of digital scrapbooking is that you can use already created theme templates like the Route 66 scrapbooking kit. This kit has interesting layouts and cool backgrounds that would add more character and edge to your travel images. This is especially pleasant to use for the photos you might have taken on a recent road trip or a drive to a serene camping location. If you loved watching the Route 66 series, there are certainly a lot of interesting ways you can get creative with this scrapbooking kit.

You can give the Route 66 digital scrapbooking a try because if you travel often, you can always reuse this kit several times. Digital scrapbook kits are not expendable because they are not physical products that can wear out after a short time. You can always recolor or resize your kits and use the images to come up with different photo articles.

Using some of the layouts that you will find in the Route 66 digital scrapbook kit, you can use your favorite images to make cards, calendars, invitation cards, mouse pads and even customized notebook covers for your travel friends. Only your creativity will limit you when using digital scrapbooking as there is a lot that you can do with these.

As the Route 66 digital scrapbooking kit comes in different layouts, you can always tell a story with different layouts and if you are new to digital scrapbooking, there are templates that you can check out online to give you an idea of how to start or go about making digital scrapbooks.

As with most digital scrapbooks, you will not be required to use any physical paper, glue or scissors when using the Route 66 digital scrapbook. You can try different layouts and save what you like most. It is also possible to finish your editing at a later date or rearrange components as you see fit. So, as you can see, it is much more fun to use digital scrapbooking than the usual scrapbooks and especially themed ones like the scrapbooking kit route 66.

Best Printer for Scrapbooking 2013 to Print Scrapbooking Layouts

Print Scrapbooking Layouts with the Best Printer for Scrapbooking

I haven’t often printed my layouts so far. But since we went to the fair in March I had to print out my projects to show people what they could do with digital scrapbooking. We created coffee cups, notebooks, a photo book, mouse pads, and many more articles to show what you can do with digital scrapbooking. So here I show you the best printer for scrapbooking.

Many things you can do at home on your own printer. I know many think that ink costs a lot of money but there is a lot of cheap ink you can consider – for not even half the price. We bought it and are still more than happy with the results.

Here are the best printers for scrapbooking I know and use for my own projects.

The Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless is my favorite printer. It prints two-side documents and even captures beautiful photos from HD-Movies taken with a Canon DSLR or Powershot.

This printer is really fast and reliable and what I love most is the fact that you can get cheap ink (I know we shouldn’t do it but I do anyway and never had a disadvantage from doing so). It has a 3 inch huge display you can use intuitively. This one, as well as the others, are wireless printers. You can integrate them into your network and print wirelessly. What I really like is that I have one cable less on my desktop. This means one cable less my cat can chew 😉

Best Printer for Scrapbooking - Canon Pixma MGAnother great wireless printer is the Canon Pixma MG 5320. This is also a wireless printer and it has one huge advantage – it can also print CD and DVD labels. It also allows you to print photos from your HD Camera and has a double-sided print. Beside that it is cheaper as the Canon Pixma MX882. I don’t think you’ll notice that it might have a slightly smaller resolution. All in all – this is the better printer for your money, especially if you need the CD/DVD label print (for example if you want to print your own designed label on a DVD which is very nice). This printer allows you to print from your iPhone,  iPod Touch, and Android Devices. You can have all sorts of fun with your photos and add effects like Fish Effect, Miniature, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, and Blur Background.

Of course, it is all about the preferences you have and the label you choose (Canon, Hewlett Packard, Brother, etc.) but from my experience these printers, even with a high volume of printing we have in our office, are reliable and I can get cheap ink for both them. Also, even if you want to print your own pictures and scrapbooks these printers offer a great quality.

Please keep in mind that the paper you use to print scrapbooking layouts is also important. I usually resize my layouts to 8.5 x 11 inch –

HP Premium Plus Paper

this way I can print them at home cheaply. The HP Premium Photo Paper Pack includes 50 sheets of paper. With its weight of 280 g/m2 it has a great quality and prints black/white as well as colors sharply. The high-gloss finish ensures that skin tones are printed realistically and with maximum color-intense. You also get superior fade-resistance, mostly twice as long as the leading competitive paper. Depending on the look you want you can choose between glossy (poppy, colorful images), matte (text images), and satin finish for a professional and smooth touch.

Top 6 Photography Apps for Digital Scrapbookers

What happens if you’re on your way to work and suddenly you’re inspired by a wonderful moment that you’d like to capture to add to your digital scrapbook. You probably don’t carry your expensive camera around with you at all time, right? Chances are, you’ll have some type of smart phone though, so all is not lost.

There are hundreds of fantastic photography apps that can help spice up your photos even before you upload them to photoshop.
Camera apps are designed to capture your image in a specific way but some also provide you with lots of image adjustment features.

Let’s take a look at some of the popular apps on offer right now.

Instagram – iPhone, free
Allows you to select from a variety of 1970’s style filters such as, vintage, lomo and  hudson style, with its subtle vignetting and slightly cooled colors etc. Instagram is for the iphone but they announced in Dec 2011 that they are working on an Android version too, so watch out for that!

Instagram - Burbn, Inc.

360 Panorama – iPhone/ipad, $1.08
Great for taking panoramic shots, just spin around – slowly, taking shots as you go, then stitch them together using the app. This would be a great perhaps to capture events like birthday parties where everyone is gathered in a circle around the cake. It would be a nice addition to your digital scrapbooking.
360 Panorama - Occipital

Paper Camera – iPhone/Android, $1.08
This one allows you to create your world in cartoon style. It would be very useful for kid’s scrapbooking projects. I can see how this one could be addictive!
Paper Camera - JFDP Labs

FxCamera – Android, free
This app is very easy to use but it’s only for the android. It applies effects including toycam, fisheye, polandroid (polaroid style), Symmetry Cam is different and gives you a mirror Image in the same photo and an Andy Warhol effect, which  makes your photos look like they are a Warhol painting.

Slow Shutter Cam – iPhone, $1.08
This app is is fantastic! Without the use of an expensive DSLR camera, you can create arty and imaginative photos using the slow shutter-speed effects of this app.
Slow Shutter Cam - Cogitap Software

Hipstamatic – iPhone, $1.99
Digital photography never looked so analog! This app has to be the coolest app around. It makes just about any photograph look amazing.
It goes along with the retro trend similar to instagram and allows you to apply various trendy filters and effects which make the photographs look antique.

Hipstamatic - Synthetic, LLC

So if you want to save time adding filters, actions and special effects in photoshop, check out some of the wonderfully creative phone apps available!

What are .... Tagger Kits?

What are …. Tagger Kits?

Tagger Kits contain elements and papers just as any “normal” digital scrapbooking kits. While full-size digital scrapbooking kits are 12×12 inch with a resolution of 300 dpi for great printing quality, tagger kits have a resolution of 72 dpi and with 2.6 x 2.6 inch.

From the preview, you often don’t see that kits are tagger kits. That’s why we don’t sell tagger kits at Digidesignresort – we don’t want to confuse our customers. Beside that you can always downsize full kits.

Here is a signature tag created with Carena’s Autumn Crunch Kit – a full-sized kit used for a Tag but it gives you a basic idea how you can use Tagger Kits.

What are .... Tagger Kits?

Taggers are making signature graphics from the kits and tag them to their emails or they create avatars for e.g. forums. So mostly these graphics are used for web purposes because of their size. You can’t use them for printing.

Create your own clusters for a unique digital scrapbooking page – Digital Scrapbooking Tutorials

In this tutorial I show you how to create a cluster from premade elements in your digital scrapbooking kits. You can do this with each kit – as long as it has some flowers, leaves, and decorating elements such as the bird in this video. A great addition to clusters are also bows and ribbons you can turn around the leaves. This is an easy way to give your pages more deepth and more to look at. Clusters are also a great way to create new elements from the kits you’ve bought. Often designers even offer some cluster packs. But when you have a look at this tutorial you should be able to do it yourself 🙂

Have fun – creating clusters is really creative, there is nothing right and wrong – it’s just about taste 🙂 This cluster is created from elements from our Collaboration kit “Someone like you“. When you click on the picture you can download the cluster for free.

How To Move An Image Around

You can move an image around in Photoshop when you are in the editing stage. In fact, you will be able to multi-task as you zoom in and go around it. As you’re editing, you can zoom in and out to see what you need to do as far as adjustments are concerned. In order to do this, you should use the zoom and hand tools, and also the palette that is used for navigating.

Digital Scrapbooking Tutorial - How To Get Images Into Photoshop

Click or drag the image using the zoom tool. The more your zoom in, the more the image size will increase and get larger. You will be able to see how much the image has increased by looking at the status bar. If you want to see it in its entirety, click on the zoom icon twice. Use the ALT key to get out of the zoom function.

The hand tool is used to go around the image while you are still zoomed in. You can drag the hand in order to do this. If you want to move the image using the Navigation function, click Window and Show Navigator. If you want to see more than one window of an image, click Window, Arrange and New Window. Create an out of the Bounds effect using Photoshop Elements – Digital Scrapbooking Tutorials

Out of the Bounds Effect in Photoshop Elements

Create an Out of the Bounds Effect using Photoshop Elements

In this tutorial you learn to create the fun out of the bounds effects in the guided effects panel in Photoshop Elements. It´s fun and so easy to create.

Why to use the out of the bounds effect

Using the out of the bounds effect is not just very popular but also very effective. In the big brother of Photoshop Elements, Photoshop, this is a long procedure – you need to select the piece you want to stand out of the bound, you need to be safe in extracting and the tools Photoshop offers. Using the out of the bounds effect in Photoshop Elements is much easier.

What is the out of the out of the bound effect?

The out of the bound effect lets a part of your picture “jump” out your photo. It´s great to put some emphasis on a special part of your picture. In Photoshop Elements the out of the bounds effect is a ready prepared effect for you. You just click the “Create Tab” in your Photoshop Elements and then you are guided step by step to create this effect. Do not use the out of the bound effect too often or the effect is – as with any effect – gone.
